What is the International Union of Tenants?
The International Union of Tenants (IUT) is a non-governmental, non-profit membership organization founded in 1926 in Zurich, Switzerland. We are a movement with a global reach. Currently, uur head office is in Stockholm, Sweden. We also have a representative office in Brussels.
Together with our members, we safeguard the interests of tenants and promote affordable and decent rental housing across the world. The foundational document for all our work is the Tenants’ Charter.
Housing rights needs to be addressed locally, nationally and internationally. Affordable and sound housing is a crucial safeguards for peace and security and a fundamental pillar in all democratic societies. Lack of affordable housing and homelessness are major causes to social exclusion and detrimental to sustainable development of our societies.
