European Semester and Country Specific Recommendations

The European Union has set up a yearly cycle of economic policy coordination, called the European Semester. As part of this process, each year the Commission analyses EU member states’ reform programs and provides them with “country-specific recommendations” (CSRs) and reports. These recommendations should also contribute to the objectives of the EU long-term strategy for jobs and growth, the so-called “Europe 2020 strategy”. Here are the reports from 2019, and the ones from 2020.

The stability and growth pact is a set of rules designed to ensure that countries in the European Union pursue sound public finances and coordinate their fiscal policies.

IUT has lobbied for a more “social ” semester. IUT Brussels advocates for recommendations that take into account new societal challenges e.g. demographic change, job insecurity, migration, increasing labour mobility, and the increasing need for affordable rental housing.
