Belgium: Launch of the European Energy Poverty Observatory (EPOV)
On 29 January 2018, Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Energy Union, and Miguel Arias Cañete, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action and Energy, participated at the launch of the EU Energy Poverty Observatory (EPOV), in Brussels. In her speech at the opening ceremony,Barbara Steenbergen of IUT pointed out that energy renovation costs are transferred to the Tenants, leading to higher rents mostly not balanced by energy savings. “Renovictions” are gentrification especially in regions with a shortage of Housing is the result.
