UK Mayor wants councils to have the power to seize unsafe or poor housing

At Housing 2023 the mayor of Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) in UK, Andy Burnham, announced that he wants to give councils the power to seize unsafe or poor housing from rogue landlords to protect renters.

The Greater Manchester mayor’s new housing sector plans also include inspection teams to make landlords carry out repairs in a new deal by autumn 2024. Greater Manchester is also set to become the first region in the UK to introduce a “good landlord charter”.
