S&D Youth Event: Decent and Affordable Housing for all!
The lack of affordable, social and sustainable housing is fuelling a housing crisis all over Europe, a crisis that is exacerbated by rising living costs, the need to integrate refugees and migrants and energy scarcity at a time when climate change is accelerating. This crisis impacts everyone, but in particular young people and the elderly, single parents, and disadvantaged minorities.
The workshop, taking place on the 19th and 20th of March, will involve a number of progressive stakeholders in the field of housing. It will present what the European Union is currently doing and what it should do to make a difference for the better in the field of housing. Acknowledging at the same time that there are no “one-size-fits-all” solutions, we will present best progressive practices at local and regional level to address the housing crisis according to the relevant circumstances. The workshop will conclude by identifying key claims for prioritizing housing in the next European mandate.
Barbara Steenbergen, Head of IUT Liaison office in Brussels and Member of the Executive Committee, will share her contribution setting the scene on the Housing Crisis that is currently affecting Europe and providing concrete measures to address it.
