Fixing the renting crisis

A number of tenants’ unions have published a “renter manifesto” ahead of the upcoming UK election.

You can read and sign it here via the link.

Whatever way you look at it, this election matters. More than 50 MPs are standing down at this election including experienced MPs and former Cabinet ministers. And one in 4 seats have majorities of less than 5000 so could change hands easily.  This all means that whoever wins on 12 December, Parliament will be full of new MPs trying to tackle the biggest issues our country faces.

One of those issues that desperately needs solving is the housing crisis. One in four families live on insecure private tenancies and unaffordable rents mean half of children in private rented homes are in poverty.

That’s why renters from across the country have come together to write the Renter Manifesto – 15 policies aimed at transforming the housing system. It calls for big change, like ending unfair evictions, putting an end to benefits discrimination for tenants and capping rents.
